President '96 and ReInventing America
President '96 was an online presidential
election simulation that shadowed real-world politics. The
game featured video speeches and campaign ads with actors playing
the fictional candidates and a weekly newspaper for public
debate of the issues.
Reinventing America participants
established the priorities of the Federal government by lobbying
fellow players and a fictional Congress. The final results
- a reworking of the constitution that included a drug legalization
bill - were presented to Congress in a nationally televised
ceremony.
Developed by Crossover Technologies and
funded by the Mary and John R. Markle Foundation, both simulations
were available free of charge to AOL users and visitors to
Time/CNN's AllPolitics website.
Responsibilities included casting of actors,
production and direction of video and photo shoots, interface
design and art direction for both projects.
